Toyota’s all-electric bZ4X crossover debuted in Indonesia on Nov, 10, 2022, just one day after the car made its ASEAN debut in Thailand.
Toyota Indonesia said in a press statement that the bZ4X is the first battery-electric vehicle (EV) that the brand has sold in the country.
“The all-new bZ4X is a form of realization of Toyota’s vision in presenting ever-better cars as a means of community mobility that is pollution-free and environmentally friendly,” said PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) president director Susumu Matsuda.
The bZ4X debuted as the “bZ4X Concept” on April 2021 at Auto Shanghai in China. Worldwide sales began on April 2022.
Up to 500 kilometers of range
The crossover uses the e-Toyota New Global Architecture (e-TNGA) platform that also underpins its sibling, the Subaru Solterra. It is also used by the Lexus RZ luxury crossover.
The e-TNGA will also be used in the upcoming Toyota bZ3 EV sedan, which was co-developed by Chinese carmaker BYD.
The bZ4X features a 71.4-kWh battery pack mounted under the floor and between the front and rear wheels. “With the use of the e-TNGA platform, the bZ4X battery can be integrated into the chassis so that it is safe from impacts from various sides,” said TAM marketing director Anton Jimmi Suwandy.
“The cooling water system integrated with the car’s AC system is used to stabilize the battery temperature after extensive use to maintain battery performance and safety,” he added.
The battery pack comes with an eight-year warranty or up to 160,000 kilometers of use.
The Indonesian model has a front electric motor that produces 204 PS and 266 Nm of torque. Other markets are available with an additional rear electric motor that puts out a combined 218 PS and 338 Nm of torque.
Toyota claims that the front-wheel-drive bZ4X has a maximum range of 500 kilometers on a single charge and can do 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
Loaded with safety tech
The Indonesian bZ4X also comes with a bevy of active safety features, called Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.
These include standard blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and stability control.
The crossover also has a 12.3-inch touchscreen with full connectivity features to smartphones.
There is also the Advanced Park feature, which is designed to help the driver when parallel parking or reverse parking without needing to move the steering wheel.
Prices for the bZ4X in Indonesia start at IDR 1.19 billion, which is around ₱4.4 million as of press time.
Toyota Motor Philippines chairman, Alfred Ty has been quoted stating that TMP is “preparing for the battery EV Lexus RZ and the Toyota bZ models,” it seems only a matter of time before the bZ4X lands on our shores.
Does this prospective price make it appealing to you, though?
