The official athletic team of Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), the Ateneo Blue Eagles, is getting a boost from its first-ever automotive partner.
The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the official importer and distributor of MG cars in the Philippines, announced in a December 2022 press statement that it will be supporting ADMU’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams.
MG Philippines president and CEO Albert Arcilla said the tie-up is part of the company’s drive to become “the preferred mobility partner of the growing progressive Filipino driver and rider.”
“As MG Philippines continues to establish its track marks on the road, we also want to be part of the roadmap of our youth as they pursue their goals and aspirations,” he said.
The company said it has also established partnerships with sporting events from local basketball exhibitions to the Southeast Asian Games.
MG also fielded a works MG 5 at the Bonifacio Cup 8-Hour Endurance Challenge of the 2020 Petron Makabayan Cup Endurance Race Challenge Series.
With veteran racers Gaby Dela Merced, Marc Soong and Allan Uy behind the wheel, the nearly-stock subcompact sedan won in its class and bagged eighth overall after eight grueling hours of driving at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
“We will continue to support the Filipino athlete as they embody discipline, perseverance, and excellence—the same virtues that MG Philippines as a brand upholds and offers as well to our patrons,” Arcilla said.
“It is our honor to support the Ateneo de Manila University Volleyball team in its efforts to nurture our young college athletes, to excel with integrity, and to reach their goals with determination,” Arcilla added.
Meanwhile, ADMU director for university athletics Emmanuel Fernandez hailed the partnership with MG Philippines, saying that the brand offers excitement and inspiration like the Blue Eagles do.
“Both Ateneo and MG Philippines share a history of resiliency and innovation, especially after the grueling years of the pandemic,” he said.
“We are seeing a renewed vigor in our teams as they will be competing again in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines,” Fernandez added. “The Ateneo Blue Eagles are honored to be the first collegiate sports team partner of MG Philippines.”
