Newly launched BlueSG’s car-sharing EV damaged just 8 days later, social media is outraged

The concept of car sharing has been a god-sent to many users who are unable to afford a car. However, it is not taking off for the simple reason that people in our region just don’t take care of something that doesn’t belong to them.

Recently, photos of a badly damaged Opel Corsa-e from Singapore car-sharing service, BlueSG, have driven social media users into an uproar. The first picture showed the punctured right-front tyre while its hubcap has fallen off.

More pictures were later uploaded to the BlueSG Users Group Facebook page showing the front-end damage of the same car. The bumper has popped out on the right side, while the front is dented and badly scratched.

That’s not the mention that the car was parked bonnet-first into the lot instead of Singapore’s norm of reverse parking.

Social media was sent into a tizzy because the car has only been in service for eight days. It is the first of 500 BlueSG electric Opel Corsa-es that was launched on 27-October-2022 to ply the roads in Singapore.

The photos were taken by a user who had originally wanted to rent the car on 3-November-2022, the user changed his mind after finding the car in the horrible state it was in.

The condition of the Corsa-e is further proof that we are not ready for such a service just yet.

Last year in Malaysia, we reported that a Volkswagen Passat from car-sharing service SoCar had its infotainment screen stolen, while another instance saw someone stole a Toyota Alphard that was placed on another car-sharing app Trevo.

As of yet, BlueSG has not release a statement on their next step. It will be interesting to find out how much the repair to the damage done will cost.
