The biggest mic-drop of Thailand’s electric vehicle (EV) scene comes courtesy of the Toyota bZ4X, in which all allocations thus far were sold out in just one hour.
Pre-launch bookings were opened on 8 pm, 9-November, and shuttered within 60 minutes as Toyota Motor Thailand racked up 1,064 orders for the BEV SUV. Headlight Mag reports that this number tripled within a day; with 3,356 units accounted for by 10-November.
Despite the vast, vast price difference, Thais are treating EVs no differently from iPhones. Earlier this month, we reported how people queued up for the also Malaysia-bound BYD Atto 3, and in similar vein the upcoming MG 4 scored 1,598 bookings in 8 hours.
Yet despite all this – and with a price tag that’s nearly double the aforementioned cars – the bZ4X commanded the highest number of bookings, at least in day one. The Atto 3 reportedly chalked up 2,507 reservations only in the first day, queues notwithstanding.

The Toyota bZ4X was launched proper in the Kingdom just two days ago (14-Nov). Priced from THB 1,836,000 (approximately RM 235k), it’s sold in the sole all-wheel drive (AWD) variant that features a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides a WLTP-rated 411 km of range.
Juice from the battery goes towards two electric motors, and total system output is 218 PS and 337 Nm. Type 2 AC charging (up to 6.6 kW) is standard, and CCS2 DC fast charging up to 150 kW allows for a 0 to 80 per cent charge in just half an hour.
Kit count is rich; LED exterior lighting, 20-inch wheels, and five colour choices make up the outside. The cabin is nice too, with a panoramic roof, a full-digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen (complemented by a nine-speaker JBL setup) are just some of the goodies.
The Toyota bZ4X’s Malaysian launch is on the cards for 2023. Details are still scarce at point of publication, but you’ll be the first to know once we have our news.
