Government of Tamil Nadu has issued strict guidelines that all TNEB customers must link their Aadhar card and TNEB Account. Since all TNEB consumers have their unique consumer number or TANGEDCO service connection number, they can use it to link TNEB with Aadhar online.
Not subsidy if you don’t complete the Aadhar seeding
All TNEB Consumers who do not link their electricity bill account with their Aadhar will now on receive their bill on non-subsidized rates. They will not only get higher bill but in future, they might not get subsidy benefits at all.
Since this service is available online, you don’t need to go to your TNEB office for the linking. You can simply follow the steps mentioned here.
The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO) has petitioned the State Government for guidance on linking the Aadhaar card for new power connections.
According to TANGEDCO officials, the solution is to prevent claims for electricity subsidies by making multiple connections in one house.
Officials hope the state government makes a policy decision to link consumers’ electricity consumption figures to their Aadhaar numbers. Sources at TANGEDCO told IANS that they had held meetings with the state’s electricity minister but had yet to get approval from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Agency, which plays a key role in power policy decisions in the state.
TANGEDCO officials believe that if Aadhaar is linked to the flow number, subsidy claims can be regulated and simplified. Power Generation and Distribution Companies currently spend around Rs 3,500 crore annually on electricity subsidies.
