Many skin diseases are similar to each other, which is why they are often confused. But, having a little understanding of the causes and symptoms, you can separate one disease from another. This also applies to psoriasis with eczema, which has both similar signs and pronounced differences. Knowing them, you will not confuse one with the other. Let’s just say that both are not the same things. But for a better understanding, consider these diseases in more detail. Nevertheless, both of these problems are treated by a Dermatologist in Islamabad.
What is the difference between psoriasis and eczema?
Both are different diseases with their own causes, symptoms, and treatments. Eczema is a disease in which groups of blisters appear on the skin, similar to those that occur when water boils. Hence the name of the disease. From the Greek eczeo is translated as “to boil”. Bubbles open and form the so-called serious weeping “wells”. They are absent only in the seborrheic form of the disease.
So, the characteristic symptoms include:
- Erythema, red skin or lesion
- Papules with liquid contents
- Rash of papules without a clear outline
- The pronounced sensation of itching
- Erosion, crusts in their place
- Hair loss in the lesion
The difference between both diseases is quite noticeable. First of all, it manifests itself in the external signs observed in the patient. Psoriasis develops a psoriatic rash that is distinct from eczema. Typical symptoms of psoriasis examined by the top Dermatologist in Islamabad:
- Dryness of the skin and the formation of plaques, which, when scraped off, leave small scales. This symptom is called the stearin stain phenomenon.
- Spots with a red shiny surface remain when the scales_are removed. This_is a terminal film phenomenon that should not_be removed as it will cause bleeding.
- Isolation of exudate with blood when removing the terminal film.
How to distinguish the two diseases?
The main difference between the two is external manifestations. Eczema is a blistering rash in the form of small blisters that open and leads to the formation of crusts. With psoriasis a psoriatic rash in the form of many spots with scales, when removed, blood begins to flow.
Other differences between the two:
- Psoriasis is a disease that has only a chronic form. Eczema has acute lasts 2 months and has chronic forms. Psoriasis cannot_be eliminated forever, so it_is considered a more severe disease. Eczema_is cured with the right treatment.
- Psoriasis is based on autoimmune processes and the inadequate reaction of the immune system. The exact mechanism for the development of eczema has not yet_been elucidated. At the same time, the provoking factors of diseases are largely similar.
- Eczema is more typical for children. Adults are less likely to experience it. They simply “outgrow” the disease the symptoms disappear as they grow older. Psoriasis in children and adults occurs with the same frequency, the disease does not depend on age but develops due to the influence of risk factors.
- Eczema only affects the skin, while psoriasis can affect the nails, joints, and internal organs.
- With eczema, pronounced itching and burning_are observed. With psoriasis, itching can only occasionally be felt.
- Eczema spots do not have clear boundaries, they_are blurred. Spots with psoriasis, on the contrary, have contours.
- Dermatologists in Islamabad can treat both.
- Psoriasis can appear anywhere. Eczema affects the most delicate areas: skin folds, inner folds of the limbs, and the area between the fingers.
- With eczema, the lesion has a pronounced swelling. It_is practically not observed with psoriasis.
- Scales with eczema are only with the seborrheic form of the disease. It_is also possible the appearance of bubbles filled with pus.
- It is on the difference in signs that the differential diagnosis of both is based upon. If a patient has a psoriatic triad the phenomenon of stearin stain, terminal film, and “blood dew”, then he is more likely to have psoriasis, since there are no such symptoms with eczema.
