All-new 2023 Toyota Sienta design patents found in Indo IP documents, arriving soon?

The all-new third-generation 2023 Toyota Sienta might be suitable in urban and modern markets like Japan and Singapore but don’t simply think it wouldn’t be offered in other countries, at least officially.

Our colleagues over at AutoFun ID have discovered patent images of the all-new Sienta in the latest documents of the Indonesian Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) that were just recently published.

Registered under the number A00202202287, the Sienta’s design patent was filed on 13-July 2022 by Toyota themselves according to the official documents. In the documents were also design renders of the uniquely shaped mini-MPV.

The previous-gen Sienta, still being assembled in Indonesia

Discontinued in Malaysia, the previous-gen Sienta is still sold in Indonesia where the car is also being assembled. Despite buyers’ love for 7-seaters, the outgoing Sienta sold poorly in the archipelago with only 11 units sold in Indonesia in September 2022 according to Gaikindo’s sales data.

This paled in comparison to the Avanza’s 6,855 units and the Veloz’s 3,411 units in the same month. Still, it seems that PT Toyota Astra Motor might want to continue offering the Sienta in its newest generation but there is also a possibility that the all-new mini-MPV might never even make it into Indonesia.

The all-new Sienta is currently only offered in Singapore and Japan sitting on the same TNGA-B platform as the Japanese-, European-, and Australian-spec Yaris and Yaris Cross.

Powered by either a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre M15A-FKS 3-pot (120 PS/145 Nm) or an Atkinson-cycle 1.5-litre M15A-FXE 3-pot petrol-electric hybrid unit (Engine: 91 PS/120 Nm, Electric motor: 80 PS/141 Nm), the Sienta is clearly built for urban families.

It has hands-free powered sliding doors, a flat cabin floor, lots of practical cubby holes and seat pockets, as well as an interior that is best described as “Muji-like”.
