2023 Volvo XC40 facelift launched in Malaysia, RM 268k – 278k, EV most expensive variant

Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has launched the 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric (EV) facelift and its XC40 series.

VCM says there were over 400 orders for the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric within the first two months, with all units delivered by June 2022. The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric was also the first Volvo car model that was made available for bookings online.

The new 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric facelift is priced at RM278,888. There’s a new front bumper with more angular design motifs and a triangular-shaped headlamps. It basically gets the Volvo C40 look. There’s also a new exterior colour called ‘Fjord Blue’.

Interior remains mostly identical, except for a new gear lever sculpted with leather-free charcoal gear shift. There’s also air purifier with PM2.5 pre-cleaning.

Powertrain is unchanged from before, with an output of 408 PS/660 Nm from the dual motors that propels all four wheels (AWD).

Battery capacity is rated at 78 kWh, providing a 438 km range on a WLTP cycle. As for charging via the CCS (Combine Charging System) Combo 2 connector, the Volvo XC40 Recharge EV can take up to 11 kW in AC charging (0-100% in 8 hours), and supports up to 150 kW DC fast charging (0-80% in 40 minutes).

The updates are also available in the combustion-engine variants – the XC40 Recharge T5 Ultimate (Plug-in Hybrid, PHEV) and XC40 B5 Ultimate (Mild Hybrid), both priced at RM268,888.

The mild-hybrid XC40 B5 Ultimate replaces the previous non-hybrid T5 and comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 263 PS/390 Nm, paired to an 8-speed automatic that drives all four wheels.

The XC40 Recharge T5 Ultimate, meanwhile, is powered by a plug-in hybrid 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with 262 PS/425 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

As standard, all variants of the Volvo XC40 facelift get the full ADAS suite of IntelliSafe with AEB, LKA, CTA, BLIS, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Run-off Road Mitigation. There’s also Pilot Assist, a level 2 semi-autonomous driving feature.

The 2023 Volvo XC40 models will be available in six colour options – Black Stone, Crystal White, Sage Green, Silver Dawn, Thunder Grey and the latest colour Fjord Blue.
