AutoFun–The Lambretta, as it is known in Taiwan, was first introduced to the Taiwanese market in the 1960s. Although the brand had operational problems that led to its discontinuation, it returned to the motorbike market after an Indian consortium took over.
In 2019, Lambretta unveiled the G-Special Concept, a steel car with an elegant design that was both modern and old-fashioned, and which wowed fans, challenging its rivals Vespa in various area especially Vespa Thailand. However, the global epidemic disrupted Lambretta’s efforts and in 2022 the brand announced the debut of the G350 Special, a commercially available version of the G-Special Concept.
The G350 Special is built on a steel frame and is finished in a variety of colours to give it an excellent texture. The car is powered by a 350 c.c. single-cylinder engine that produces 27 hp. The LED lights and TFT-LCD screen provide a more technological experience. The MSRP is €7,200 (approx. TWD 227,000).
The X300 is another model presented at the same time, with a single-cylinder engine of 275 c.c. and a maximum output of 25 hp, but also with an emphasis on a more youthful look, incorporating modern, minimalist and technological elements. The body is also made of steel and is equipped with LED headlights, ABS and keyless start. The price is €5,900 (approx. NTD 186,000).
The Lambretta’s G350 Special and X300 models are both yellow-plate cars with better road rights under Taiwan’s tax regulations. With a strong European vintage Sokoda style, and the addition of technology, the Lambretta is sure to bring more options for vintage Sokoda lovers if they ever come to Taiwan.
